If you use a Macintosh, you may want to check out this great browser called, Shirra. The goal of Shirra is to become better than Safari. From the looks of it, it is very nice. The Shiira browser renders every page exactly how Safari does, so no worries there.

Shiira is a web browser based on Web Kit and written in Cocoa. The goal of the Shiira Project is to create a browser that is better and more useful than Safari. All source code used in this software is publicly available.”

One amazing feature that Shiira has is the ability to perform Tab Exposé on the tabs within a window. Have mutliple tabs in a window and want to see them all at once to select one, press F8 and it will present you with an ordered preview of all the pages that are there. That is a great idea and well implemented. You can see a screenshot of this below:

The browser also features a fun effect called, “Page transition effect”. This effect only works in Tiger and will transition when you go to a different page in the browser. It will make it look as if the page is turning, like a book. Personally, I did not like this all that much. The transition seemed a little choppy, but you can disable this in the options and is set disabled at default.

Shiira also features a great Bookmarking system that is easily presented on the side bar. You also can integrate Firefox and Safari bookmarks with your Shiira bookmarks. Very cool.

Overall, Great browser and definitely worth a look for any Macintosh user.

You’ll be interested to know that Shiira has been released in English with a new logo and a better rendering engine.

I cant wait to try it out, since it was ported to English there’s been a huge buzz about it.
