Stellarium is an amazing open source application that will allow you to view the planetarium system and in real time (available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux). Stellarium will start you off in the middle of an open field that allows you to look around, zoom into planets, view constellations, etc., in great detail. Even better, you get to select the location and time that you are in so it will attempt to match what you see, and from what I have read, it is fairly accurate.

Viewing the stars and seeing what the constellations are enough for me, but what you also have the ability to do is to zoom into stars, planets, even nebulae’s. What I just tried was to go outside and find where the moon is. I then looked around the moon at the stars and whatnot. When I came back in, I opened Stellarium to see if it would show anything that I saw. A lot of it did match and was a lot of fun to be able to view what everything was in comparison to real life outdoors.

I just downloaded this software. It has a very cool look and feel to it. It is quite friendly to those wanting to make videos / pictures of certain aspects of the universe. Thanks for the recommendation.
